Head coach
Matt Thune has finalized his Alaska Anchorage women's basketball staff, announcing Tuesday that Anchorage native
Mia 'Uhila has been hired as an assistant coach.
'Uhila returns home after completing a four-year NCAA Div. I career at the University of Hawaii in 2024-25, playing in 31 games and leading a 22-win Rainbow Wahine squad with 85 percent free throw shooting.
The former Bartlett High School star played her first three collegiate seasons at Portland State, starting 31 of 84 games and earning Academic All-Big Sky honors every year. She averaged 8.5 points per game as a junior, ranking second on the Vikings with 86 assists and grabbing a team-best 39 steals.
"I'm very excited to welcome Mia to our basketball program," said Thune, who took over as head coach this spring. "She brings great experience from her playing time at Hawaii, Portland State and locally at Bartlett. She joins us highly recommended on her character, work ethic, and her desire to begin her coaching career in order to mentor the next generation. I can't wait to see her growth and continued impact in the Anchorage community."
As a prep star, 'Uhila was the 2021 Alaska Gatorade and MaxPreps player of the year, leading Bartlett to Cook Inlet Conference and 4A State titles. She was a three-time all-state and four-time All-CIC selection.
'Uhila earned her B.A. in economics from the University of Hawaii in spring 2025.
