Anderson, Momberg make GNAC preseason squad

PORTLAND, Ore. (Oct. 22) – Eight days before opening tip, the Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team has already landed its first individual honors of 2026-27, with Mylee Anderson and Kyla Momberg being named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Team on Thursday.

A 5-8 sophomore guard, Anderson is coming off one of the top freshman seasons in program history, producing 10.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game. The Wasilla native ranked fourth in the GNAC and seventh nationally among freshmen in assists, and she was the GNAC's second-leading freshman scorer. Anderson started all 26 of her appearances as a rookie, also ranking top-5 in the league with a 1.5 assist/turnover ratio.

"Mylee has continued to establish herself as one of the leaders of our program and we expect her to take another step this season," said UAA head coach Matt Thune. "She brings a high level of competitiveness, toughness, and consistency to our team, and her ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor makes her extremely valuable. We're excited about the growth she's shown heading into year two."

A 5-8 guard with 5th-year status, Momberg started all 35 games last season for league rival Montana State Billings, helping the Yellowjackets to the GNAC Tournament title and an NCAA berth. The Box Elder, Mont., native averaged 9.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.3 steals and shot .785 on free throws in her first year at the NCAA Div. II level, following a three-year stint at NAIA program Montana Western. Momberg had some of her best showings late in the season, including 26 points and the game-winning basket against UAA, and 11 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and five steals in MSUB's GNAC Tourney upset of Central Washington.

"Kyla is a very talented player who brings a great combination of scoring and vision to our team," Thune said. "She has meshed with our group seamlessly and we believe her best basketball is still ahead of her. As she continues to grow within our system and build chemistry with her teammates, we look forward to seeing the impact she can make in the GNAC this season."

Anderson and Momberg are among 15 honorees on the league's annual preseason list.

The Seawolves debut Oct. 30-Nov. 1 with three games at the Hoops In Hawaii Tip-Off Classic in Honolulu, before making their home debut Nov. 6-7 against College of Idaho at the Alaska Airlines Center.
