PORTLAND, Ore. (Feb. 11) – Led by plus-3.85 grade-point averages from local products
Luke Johnston and
Bishop Tosi, the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team landed six players Wednesday on the Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, presented by Barnes & Noble College.
UAA's six selections were second-most in the 10-team league and just one shy of the program record of seven honorees in 2021-22.
A sophomore kinesiology major from Dimond High School, Johnston tied for the league's third-best overall GPA at 3.90. Tosi, a senior from Bartlett High, was fifth among the 35 honorees with 3.88 GPA as a double-major in political science and communications.
Sophomore
Lyman Simmons (St. George, Utah, 3.71, kinesiology) also made the team for the first time, along with junior
Zach Ibbetson (Corona, Calif., 3.66, marketing) and seniors
Jesse Stines (La Mirada, Calif., 3.29, construction management) and
Hasaan Herrington (East Anchorage HS, 3.26, journalism & public communications).
To qualify for the GNAC All-Academic Team, nominees must be of sophomore eligibility or greater, have a minimum cumulative GPA or 3.20 or greater, be a letterwinner on their team, and must be in their second year of competition at the nominating institution.
