Seawolves rout Falcons in Seattle, 91-52

SEATTLE (Feb. 21) – Mahaila Harrison delivered a career-high 32 points and Elaina Mack powered a huge second-quarter run with 29 points Saturday to lead Alaska Anchorage to a 91-52 women's basketball victory over Seattle Pacific at Brougham Pavilion.

The Seawolves (15-10, 7-9 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got 12 points and four assists from guard Mylee Anderson as they outshot the hosts .446 to .295 and turned 27 SPU turnovers into 40 points.

The Falcons (7-18, 4-12) were led by 19 points and 13 rebounds from forward Grace Leasure.

"We brought a lot of passion and intensity into today's game, and once we started to get rolling in the second quarter, it was satisfying to see us finish the job strong," said UAA head coach Matt Thune.

Looking to avenge their 101-98 loss to the Falcons on Jan. 22, the Seawolves never trailed in the rematch. Senior Taylor Searcey put UAA up 7-0 with an early three-point play, and Mack made it 16-11 at the quarter break with a step-back, bank-in three-pointer that beat the buzzer by a tenth of a second.

Leasure kept her team within 25-21 on a jumper at the 7-minute mark of the second quarter, but the Falcons would not score again until 39 seconds remained. Harrison started the deciding surge innocently with four straight free throws, and Mack pumped in one of her four three-pointers, along with an over-the-shoulder, flip-in layup for a traditional three-point play. The team's leading scorers combined for the first 14 points in a 19-0 run, capped by baskets from freshmen Alba Sanz and Anderson.

SPU opened the second half with a basket to make it 46-26 before the onslaught continued. Harrison scored 11 points over a three-minute span, and Mack found Searcey on the fast break to finish a 14-0 surge. The advantage grew to 70-30 when Searcey and Mack traded places on another nifty transition layup, and UAA stretched its largest lead to 89-45 in the final minutes.

Playing in her home state, Harrison shot 10 of 25 from the floor (2-7 3FG) and 10 of 11 at the free-throw line to beat her previous career high by one point. The Vancouver native also had 11 rebounds and three steals to secure her sixth double-double, topping the 25-point plateau for the sixth time.

Mack shot 12 of 21 from the field, along with seven rebounds and a career-high-tying four steals. The King Cove native moved up two spots into 14th place on UAA's career scoring list, now with 1,095 points.

Searcey had nine points on 4-of-4 shooting, four rebounds, three assists and two steals, Sanz added seven points, three rebounds and two steals, and junior center Lillee Duffin had nine rebounds, three assists and no turnovers.

The Seawolves conclude the regular season next week with games Thursday (7:30 pm) against Western Oregon and Saturday (5:15 pm) against Saint Martin's at the Alaska Airlines Center. Find tickets, live links and more at GoSeawolves.com.
