Bromee earns All-American honors

PARK CITY, UTAH – Ella Bromee of the University of Alaska Anchorage earned All-American honors in the giant slalom at the NCAA Skiing National Championships Wednesday.

Bromee, a native of Ostanskar, Sweden, was 17th after run one (1:06.27) but ripped the fastest second run of the day (1:00.16) to move up to seventh overall (2:06.43).

Bromee has earned four All-American honors for career, three in slalom and one in giant slalom.

"Really good day for the ladies," said head coach Sparky Anderson. "Ella piped second run. So impressive. Moved up from starting 27th to 17th on the first run, then won the second run to finish All-American in seventhth. It's a very difficult thing to accomplish, and she did it with grace. Great to see Ainsley move up on both runs. That is no small feat in this ultra-talented field. Both of our Seawolves had a great mindset coming into the race. The approach was perfect and the execution on an extremely challenging hill was lights out. We'll take this good energy and pass it to our Nordic group who compete tomorrow."

Ainsley Proffit finished 22nd in 2:09.26.

Alaska Anchorage is currently 12 of 22 teams with 34 points.

The NCAA Skiing National Championships continue Thursday with the 7.5-kilometer classic race.
