ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Anchorage volleyball team has added four newcomers to its 2026 roster as head coach
Morgan Hooe announced Thursday that
Patri Ferran,
Alex Gonzalez-Orozco,
Mary Nahinu and
Rachael Reyes have signed scholarship agreements.
The foursome features three transfers and one incoming freshman in Ferran, bringing the Seawolves' incoming class to seven players.
Patri Ferran
6-0, Middle Blocker | Zaragoza, Spain (Club Voleibol Zaragoza)
Ferran will return to Anchorage three years after playing her sophomore year of high school as an exchange student at Service High School. She was a second-team All-Cook Inlet Conference performer in her lone season in Alaska, helping the Cougars back to the state tournament for the first time in 19 years, while producing 248 kills and a state-best 120 blocks.
Coach Hooe says…
"I'm excited to have Patri back after coaching her in club when she was here. She's very athletic and has grown a lot in the last few years. She's a natural middle, but she's versatile enough to contribute at any front-row spot. I think Seawolf fans will enjoy her style of play over the next four years."
Alex Gonzalez-Orozco
5-5, Libero/Defensive Specialist | Gering, Neb. (Gering HS/Western Nebraska CC)
Gonzalez-Orozco will have two years of eligibility at UAA after totaling 837 digs (3.17 per set) in two seasons at junior college program Western Nebraska. As a sophomore, she ranked fourth in NJCAA Region 9 with 4.51 dps, posting 12 matches with at least 20 digs and three with at least 30 digs. She was also strong in a DS role as a freshman, averaging 1.87 dps for a 28-10 club that advanced to the Region 9 title match.
Coach Hooe says…
"Alex is an extremely consistent passer and defender who will bolster our back row and help our offense stay in system. She brings a calm and confident energy and reads the other side of the net well. She played for an excellent coach at a high-level junior college and posted impressive stats last fall. Her experience as a leader in that program will be huge with the amount of young talent we're bringing in."
Mary Nahinu
5-5, Libero/Defensive Specialist | North Salt Lake, Utah (Skyridge HS/Norfolk State)
Nahinu returns to her West Coast roots after playing at Div. I program Norfolk State, where she led the Spartans with 3.18 digs per set as a true freshman. She was an all-state, all-city and all-valley selection as a senior in high school, helping her team to a state tournament berth and finishing as Skyridge's career leader with 1,182 digs. She also suited up for Club V, considered among the top club teams in Utah.
Coach Hooe says…
"Mary is a quick, mobile defender who makes athletic moves on defense and plays with a 'ball doesn't hit the floor' mentality. She has the ability to take up a lot of space in serve receive and brings relentless energy every time she steps on the court. Her experience playing at the Division I level and for a very competitive club in Utah before college have prepared her to make an immediate impact."
Rachael Reyes
5-8, Setter, | Northridge, Calif. (Sierra Canyon HS/San Francisco State)
Reyes spent her first two collegiate seasons in a reserve role at fellow NCAA Div. II West Region program San Francisco State, contributing to the Gators' 2024 squad that finished national runner-up. Among her top efforts at SFSU, she had 16 assists in a loss to 2025 NCAA runner-up Tampa. Reyes starred in high school at Sierra Canyon, leading her team to Mission League titles as a junior and senior, and the CIF-SS D1 title as a junior.
Coach Hooe says…
"Rachael is a left-handed setter that will put a lot of stress on our opponents. She's got great experience at the D-II level and knows what it takes to win championships after being at San Francisco State on their runner-up team."
The latest newcomers join fall signees
Indy Kmet (6-1, OH, South Anchorage HS),
Vaiula Leaoa (6-0, OH, Unalaska HS) and
Sophie Tapley (5-8, RS, Kenai Central HS) to bring the Seawolves roster to 17 players. UAA returns eight letterwinners from its 2025 team that finished 23-6, shared the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
