ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – The University of Alaska Anchorage swept the individual and team titles at the Seawolf Throwdown at Kincaid Park Saturday.
"I am really pleased with our team's races today," said head coach Ryan McWilliams. "We had a good start to the season up in Fairbanks last week. And I think in a lot of ways there was stuff we saw today that was even more encouraging. Both squads executed the race plan really well. We're looking forward to putting in two weeks of work before heading out of state to get the bigger races started."
Natalie Allen won the women's six-kilometer race in 22:51, 15 seconds ahead of Iris Haas of Alaska Fairbanks.
Sam Griffin cover the men's eight-kilometer course in 26:20 to win by 14 seconds over Nick Iverson of Alaska Fairbanks.
Nikiji Dayse was third (23:16), Gloria Kiprotich fourth (23:24) and Makendra McCarty was fifth (23:34).
Avery Williamson completed the scoring for the UAA women with an eighth-place finish in 23:54.
The UAA women defeated UAF 21-36.
Stephen Zukowski was third in 26:41. Charlie Kinslow was sixth (26:58), Tony Ruiz seventh (27:06) and Henry O'Neal was eighth (27:17)
The UAA men defeated UAF 25-30.
Alaska Anchorage will face its first competition outside of the 49th State when it competes at the Western Oregon Invite Sept. 26th.
