MONMOUTH, ORE. – Ben Peck, Sam Griffin and Ewen Wilkinson each finished in the top-10 to lead the University of Alaska Anchorage men's cross country team to a runner-up finish at the Mike Johnson Classic Saturday.

"This was a great first big race for us," said head coach Ryan McWilliams. "It was good to have more racers out there than just two teams we have had in the home and home series with UAF. Men ran fantastic and the women showed some grit, in a meet we have been training through. Looking forward to getting 100-percent healthy on both sides and head to Lewis to do some high-pressure competing out of region."

Ben Peck covered the eight-kilometer course in 24:35 to lead the Seawolves. Sam Griffin finished eighth (24:52), and Ewen Wilkinson was ninth (24:57).

Edgar Vera finished 18^th (25:27) in his first race of the season. Henry O'Neal and Tony Ruiz tied for 27^th (25:45), and Stephen Zukowski was 29^th (25:46).

The UAA men finished second of 12 teams with 65 points.

Natalie Allen led the UAA women finishing 20^th in the six-kilometer race in 21:39.

Makendra McCarty placed 54^th (22:37), and Gloria Kiprotich was 70^th (23:12).

Gracie Puit and Avery Williamson finished 91^st (23:53) and 92^nd (23:57). Avrey Campbell finished 111^th (25:47).

The UAA women finished 11 of 13 teams with 272 points.

Alaska Anchorage will compete at the Lewis Crossover Oct. 10^th.
