ANCHORAGE – Cal State Los Angeles guard Tessondra
Williams scored a game-high 24 points Monday to lead the Golden Eagles to an
86-49 victory over Eastern New Mexico in the opening game of the AT&T Hoops
Classic women’s basketball tournament at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
Cal State L.A. (6-3), from the California Collegiate Athletic Association, also
got 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting from senior guard Kelli Lewis. Williams, a
senior from Chicago, was 9 of 13 from the field as the Golden Eagles shot 54
percent.
Eastern New Mexico (0-9), from the Lone Star Conference, was led by 15 points
and six rebounds from guard Taylor Collier.
The Golden Eagles took control early, jumping to a 9-0 lead before the Zias
attempted a shot. ENMU rallied to draw within 19-17 midway through half, but
CSULA took control from there with a 24-2 run.
The Golden Eagles retake the court Tuesday against Brigham Young-Hawaii at 5
p.m. AST in the third game of the round-robin event, while the Zias will face
host Alaska Anchorage in Tuesday’s nightcap at 7 p.m.
