#16 Vikings eliminate Sea Lions, 3-0
ANCHORAGE – Outside hitter Abby Phelps collected 13 kills and 18 digs Friday to help nationally 16th-ranked Western Washington to a dominating 25-23, 25-13, 25-19 victory over Point Loma in the first round of the NCAA Div. II West Regional Volleyball Championships at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The No. 2 seed Vikings (24-5) also got seven kills and five total blocks from freshman middle blocker Kayleigh Harper as they won the hitting battle .289 to .116.
The No. 7 seed Sea Lions (20-10) got 14 kills and 12 digs from Heather Leavitt, while libero Christin Fisher posted 19 digs and six assists in the loss.
With its victory, Western Washington moves on to Saturday’s 6 p.m. AST regional semifinal against No. 6 seed UC San Diego (20-11), which upset 3rd-seeded Sonoma State earlier Friday.
