Two-sport star Ruth Keino became the first recipient of the Bill MacKay Athlete of the Year trophy when she was honored for her accomplishments as a redshirt freshman on the 2010 track & field team, plus her outstanding season as a junior on the 2011 cross country squad. Keino led the Seawolves with a school-record 7th-place individual finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, capturing her second career All-America award and helping UAA to 6th place as a team. She also led the Seawolves to a sweep of the NCAA West Region and GNAC team titles with top-3 finishes in both races. On the track, Keino tied for UAA's top performance at the NCAA Championships with an 11th-place finish in the 5,000 meters, racing to a school-record time of 16:44.24. She also placed 14th in the 10,000 meters at NCAAs was a provisional qualifier in the 1,500 meters, setting the UAA record with a time of 4:34.34.
