Tobias Schwoerer - 2001-02/2002-03 - Men's Cross Country / Skiing

Tobias Schwoerer, of Lenzkirch, Germany, became the first Seawolf to win back-to-back AOY awards. A 35th-place finish at the 2001 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships made him UAA’s first-ever All-American in that sport and led the Seawolves to a 16th-place team finish. At the NCAA Ski Championships later that season, he raced to fourth place in the 20-K freestyle and fifth in the 10-K classical, becoming the first UAA athlete to earn All-America honors in both cross country running and skiing. The next year, Schwoerer was the No. 2 runner  — capturing All-GNAC and All-Region honors — on a UAA team that finished 12th at NCAAs and won the GNAC championship. In the spring, he skied to third place in both the 10-K freestyle and 20-K classical races at NCAAs, and won the West Regional title in the 15-K classical. Schwoerer also excelled in the classroom, earning Div. II Cross Country/Track and Field Academic All-America honors, plus the 2002-03 Dresser Cup.
