A junior from Blenheim, New Zealand, Cody Thomas won two All-America awards, two GNAC MVP honors, and led the Seawolves to their first-ever team title in indoor track & field, among his many accomplishments in the last calendar year.
In the spring of 2014, Thomas was voted the GNAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year and was the Outstanding Male Performer at the league championship meet, where he captured the decathlon title and earned top-6 finishes in six other events, helping UAA to a runner-up team placing. At the NCAA Championships, he placed seventh in the decathlon with a school-record 7,189 points – good for the No. 2 mark in GNAC history.
Thomas improved on his accomplishments this winter, earning the GNAC co-Athlete of the Year for indoor track & field and placing runner-up at the national meet in the heptathlon. He paced the Seawolves to their first-ever GNAC team title on the men’s side by scoring 28 points, earning another Most Outstanding Male Performer award. Thomas collected his third straight GNAC crown in the heptathlon by winning four of the seven events – including a meet-record 8.50 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles – and furnished points in the open 60 meters (5th), 200 meters (5th), high jump (3rd) and long jump (5th). At NCAAs, he broke his own school record with 5,488 points, also No. 2 all-time in the GNAC’s 14-year history.
