PORTLAND, Ore. – Prior to making his debut for the Alaska Anchorage men’s basketball team, junior transfer Tyler Brimhall has already made an impression on league coaches as he was named Thursday to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Team.
A 6-5 wing from Logan, Utah, the Seawolves’ lone representative is the only newcomer among the 15 players on the GNAC’s 2018-19 preseason squad.
Before coming north, Brimhall was the second-leading scorer and rebounder as a sophomore for a North Idaho College club that captured the championship of the 33-team Northwest Athletic Conference in 2017-18, averaging 12.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. He shot .474 overall, .412 from three-point range and .713 from the foul stripe, scoring double figures 20 times and grabbing double-figure rebounds on four occasions.
Prior to transferring to NIC, Brimhall spent two seasons at NCAA Div. I program Idaho, where he redshirted in 2015-16 and played his freshman season in 2016-17. He appeared in 17 games his rookie year, averaging 2.5 points and posting a high of 13 points on 3-of-5 three-point shooting against Stanford.
Brimhall enjoyed a storied prep career at Logan High School, where he led the Grizzlies to an outright Region 5 championship as a senior, a share of the region title as a freshman and a trip to the 4A state semifinals as a sophomore.
The Seawolves make their season debut Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. when they host Antelope Valley at the Alaska Airlines Center.
Season tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. Call 907-786-1562 or visit AlaskaAirlinesCenter.com to purchase tickets.
