Biography

2001-02: Started 26 of 27 games in his only year with the Seawolf program...the Div. I transfer was the team’s fifth-leading scorer (7.6 ppg) and ranked second in assists (94, 3.5 apg) and third in steals (32, 1.19 spg)...versatile guard registered double-digit scoring 10 times, grabbed at least five rebounds on five occasions and dished four or more assists 13 times...during UAA’s 4-game homestand Feb. 14-23, he posted assist totals of 6, 7, 6 and 6...in OT win over Western Oregon on Feb. 16, scored eight of his 10 points in the extra session, including the game-clinching three-pointer with 18 seconds left...named to the All-Tournament Team at the AT&T Alascom Jamboree.

BEFORE UAA: Spent the 2000-01 season at Division I Brigham Young, where he appeared in 11 games, scoring seven points for the Mountain West Conference champs…played at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, from 1998-00…as a sophomore, earned Region 18 honorable mention honors for the Vikings, averaging 7.1 points per game on 38.7 percent three-point shooting and 96 percent free throw shooting…as a freshman, averaged 8.5 points, 5.3 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 43.3 percent on threes; ranked third in assists and seventh in three-point accuracy in the Scenic West Athletic Conference…a two-year captain, he started every game of his Ricks career.

HIGH SCHOOL: Earned first team all-state honors his senior season at Rigby High, leading his team to a 25-1 record and a second-place finish at the state tournament…was named High Country Conference Player of the Year, averaging 18 points per game…earned three letters apiece in basketball, football and baseball…was an all-area selection as a shortstop and quarterback.

PERSONAL: Born Ty Ben Shippen on Nov. 9, 1976 in Rexburg, Idaho…comes from athletic family – brother Trent played basketball at Ricks and Colorado State and is currently the coach of the BYU women’s team; brother Troy was Big Sky decathlon champion and starting defensive back at Idaho State; oldest brother Shane played basketball at Ricks; sister Amy has been a cheerleader for the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Clippers…served a two-year LDS mission to North Carolina…son of Emmett and Sue Shippen…earned bachelor’s degree in physical education from BYU and is working on Masters of Education at UAA.
