Matt Shasby

Matt Shasby enters his third season at Alaska Anchorage in 2024-25. 

The UAA Alum became the program’s seventh head hockey coach in school history on October 20, 2021.
In his first season at the helm, Shasby led Alaska Anchorage to an 8-19-1 mark, with notable victories
including an upset of #14 Western Michigan, a sweep of Massachusetts-Lowell, and a win over Arizona
State.

In his second season, the Seawolves finished with a 15-16-2 record, the most wins in a season since
2013-14.  The schedule featured victories over Air Force, Penn State, Wisconsin, Providence, Arizona
State, and Alaska Fairbanks.

Prior to joining UAA, Shasby served as the vice president of player development for the state of Alaska
and served as a coach with the Anchorage Hockey Association. He coached numerous age groups in
addition to high school teams during his coaching career that started in 2009.  

Shasby is a Seawolf alum who played in 127 games during his four-year career for the
Seawolves from 1999 to 2003. He was an All-WCHA Second Team Defenseman and
was named to the All-WCHA Academic Team three times.

Shasby went on to play professional hockey, appearing in 375 games, primarily with the
Alaska Aces of the ECHL. He has served as a volunteer with USA Hockey at numerous
camps and coaching education programs.

Shasby earned a bachelor's degree in history from Alaska Anchorage in 2008 and a
master's degree in secondary education from the University of Phoenix. 

Shasby currently resides in Anchorage with his wife Brooke and children Camden (19),
Brynn (17) and Taves (8).
