Alina Cartwright rejoins the Seawolf program as a volunteer assistant coach in 2021. Cartwright spent the past four years (2017-20) on the Seawolves' full-time staff, including three seasons as the program’s top assistant coach.

After joining the staff under former head coach Paul Stoklos, she helped ease the transition for head coach Tanya Ho’s first campaign in 2018 as UAA improved its team scores throughout the year.

In 2019 she played an integral role for a Seawolf squad that broke 17 school records, including season average and NQS marks on bars, beam, floor and overall, while in 2020 she helped the Seawolves again improve on the program records for bars NQS and average.

UAA’s balance beam record book has been rewritten since her arrival in 2017, with five of her gymnasts combining for the top 13 scores in program history. Under her tutelage, recent star Sophia Hyderally became one of the best beam workers in the country, winning a pair of MPSF titles and finishing fourth at the 2019 NCAA Corvallis Regional Championships.

After completing her competitive career at Michigan State in 2015, Cartwright served as a student assistant for the Spartans in 2016, helping the team qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Cartwright was a 4-year letterwinner at MSU, where she earned First Team All-Big Ten Conference honors as a junior in 2014. She sprung a career-high all-around of 39.125 in 2013 and was a member of the Spartans’ 2012 squad that qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Originally from Naperville, Ill., she is a graduate of Neuqua Valley High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in advertising from MSU in 2016.
