Former Alaska Anchorage standout Vera Pluharova served as graduate assistant coach for the Seawolves in 2022 and 2023, immediately after wrapping up her playing days.
One of the most accomplished middle blockers in program history, she helped UAA to three NCAA Tournaments from 2017-21, including a second-round berth in 2019. Originally from the Czech Republic, she became a four-year starter for the Seawolves, finishing among UAA’s career leaders in total blocks (3rd, 448), block assists (2nd, 399), blocks per set (5th, 1.10), attack percentage (8th, .279), victories (7th, 81) and matches and sets played (15th, 115 & 406).
Pluharova earned honorable mention All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference recognition as a senior in 2021, while picking up her fourth straight Academic All-GNAC honor. She also set UAA’s single-match record for attack percentage, hitting .917 in an Aug. 2021 victory over Hawaii Pacific.
Pluharova graduated from UAA with a B.S. in natural sciences and a minor in psychology in Dec. 2021, and is currently pursuing her masters of business administration.
