ANCHORAGE (Dec. 21) - Senior center Serge Using led five Seawolves in double-figures with 14 points as the University of Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team dropped Adams State 92-59 at the Sports Center Tuesday night. The Seawolves improve to 4-2 with the victory.
UAA jumped out to a 25-6 lead and held the Grizzlies (5-5) without a field goal for the first seven and a half minutes. The Seawolves shot a season-high 63.3 percent, including 75 percent from three-point range, while holding ASC to 30.4 percent shooting.
Chris Hamey scored 12 points for UAA, while Drew Gunkel and Greg Freeman added 11 each. Star point guard Ed Kirk left the game with an injury to his jaw after scoring 10 points. Kirk's status won't be known until Wednesday. Kirk also had his consecutive free throw streak snapped at 21 when he missed his second attempt.
Glen Newbold had eight rebounds (all in the first half) and a career-high five assists, while guard Scott Larrabee finished with six assists and zero turnovers.
UAA and Adams State (of Alamosa, Colo.) face each other again tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at the Sports Center.
