UAA men overcome Vikings, 89-77

ANCHORAGE (Jan. 20) - The trio of Chris Hamey, Greg Freeman and Taylor Wagner combined for 64 points to help the UAA men's basketball team to an 89-77 Pac West Conference victory over Western Washington at the Sports Center Thursday night. Scott Larrabee added 10 points and six assists for the Seawolves (9-6, 2-3 PWC), who shot 53 percent in the second half.

Guard Jared Stevenson led the Vikings (11-6, 4-2 PWC) with 20 points, but WWU was held to just 30 percent field goal shooting in the second half after connecting on 56 percent in the first stanza.

Hamey's game-high 23 points moved him past Dale Bartley and Todd Fisher into 10th place on the all-time UAA scoring list. Hamey now has 1,018 points and trails Ryan Williams (1,027) by only nine points for ninth place. Freeman scored 22 and Wagner 19, both career highs. It was the third straight game that Wagner established a new career best.

UAA center Serge Using scored only four points with six rebounds, but the 7-1 senior racked up five blocks.

The Seawolves end their two-game homestand Saturday night against No. 25 Central Washington at the Sports Center.
