ANCHORAGE (Feb. 13) - Forwards Stephanie Smith and Tiffany Massey each posted double-doubles as the UAA women's basketball team easily handled Western New Mexico 58-44 at the Sports Center Sunday night. The Seawolves (16-6, 11-4 Pac West) jumped out to a 20-0 lead and were never threatened despite 21 points from Audrie Magdaleno of WNMU (6-16, 3-12 PWC).
Massey scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Smith had 10 and 10. Kellie Torrey chipped in with 11 points and 8 rebounds as the Seawolves controlled the boards by a 52-22 count.
Several reserves saw action for the Seawolves including Sarah Larrabee, who had a career-high 5 points, and Jennifer Gardeline, who ripped down a career-best 7 rebounds.
UAA held the Mustangs without a point for the game's first 10 minutes, 30 seconds and allowed WNMU to shoot just 32.1 percent from the floor.
The Seawolves now embark on their longest road trip of the season (four games in 10 days), beginning Thursday at Western Oregon.
