Lady Seawolves fall to Simon Fraser, 71-59

BURNABY, British Columbia (Feb. 24) - Stephanie Smith led four Seawolves in double figures with 16 points, but the UAA women's basketball team could not overcome a tough road foe, losing 71-59 to Simon Fraser in a non-conference game Thursday night. Tiffany Massey had 13 points and 11 rebounds for UAA (18-7), while Jessica Kaczowka led the Clan (24-2) with a game-high 24 points.


Massey's double-double was her team-leading seventh of the season as the junior forward also picked up three assists and two steals. Senior guard Tirzah Church and junior center Dana Bottoms contributed 10 points apiece for the Seawolves. Junior center Kellie Torrey had a career-high-tying four blocked shots.


Teresa Kleindienst and Jen Van de Walle had 14 points each for Simon Fraser, which is ranked No. 4 in the NAIA.


Both teams shot well, with SFU connecting on 46.8 percent of its shots and UAA 44.4 percent. SFU outrebounded UAA 39-29.


UAA wraps up its four-game road trip with a Saturday night game at Seattle University before returning to Anchorage for the regular-season finale against Humboldt State on March 4.
