UAA AT NCAA...The UAA ski team finished its 1999-2000 season with a 10th place showing at the 2000 NCAA Ski Championships in Soldier Hollow (Nordic) and Park City (Alpine), Utah. UAA had 273 points after the completion of the meet with Saturday's Nordic classic races. Denver University won its first NCAA championship since 1971, with 720 points by unseating two-time defending champion and 2000 runnerup, University of Colorado (621 points). The Seawolves' top men's Nordic skier, freshman Tobias Schwoerer of Lenzkirsh, Germany, was sidelined from the competition with a bacterial infection.
NCAA SUCCESS...The Seawolves' 10th place showing at this year's NCAA Ski Championship was their 20th straight top 10 NCAA finish. UAA's best finish was fifth place in 1993 and 1997.
ALL-AMERICA...Every athlete who places in the top 10 of an event at the NCAA Ski Championship receives All-America honors. Junior Edda Mutter's ninth place finish in the slalom earned her All-America accolades for the third time, while sophomore Jesse Gallagher's All-America status came after his 10th place finish in the 10-kilometer freestyle.
