NAMPA, Idaho (Oct. 8) - Marise Knock and Starr Burgan each tallied career-highs in kills to help the University of Alaska Anchorage volleyball team to its third straight victory, 24-30, 30-28, 28-30, 30-23, 15-8, over host Northwest Nazarene at Montgomery Fieldhouse tonight.
The Seawolves (11-7, 4-4 GNAC) completed a 3-0 road trip and won their second straight 5-game match. Northwest Nazarene (7-9, 3-7) got 26 kills and 15 digs from Erin Hellberg.
Middle blocker Brianne Halling, who earlier Monday was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference co-Player of the Week, had 15 kills and five blocks.
Meanwhile, Knock had her best offensive night as a Seawolf with 20 kills, including four in the decisive fifth game. She also posted 12 digs to record her team-leading eighth double-double off the season. The senior outside hitter was at her best in helping UAA to victory in the second game with six kills in seven attempts.
Burgan, a sophomore from Anchorage's Service High School, equaled her career-best with 11 kills and set a career-high with three solo blocks. Her 10 digs also gave her the first double-double of her career.
Senior outside hitter Tiffany Massey came close to getting her first double-double with nine kills and 11 digs, plus a pair of service aces. Senior setter Janelle Veith was solid again with 58 assists, 18 digs and six kills. Sophomore Kasey Kuelper enjoyed her best defensive showing of the year with 17 digs.
Monday's match, originally set for Sept. 15, had been rescheduled due to the Sept. 11 tragedies.
The Seawolves shoot for their fourth straight road win Thursday evening when they travel north to face rival Alaska Fairbanks at 7 p.m.
