FAIRBANKS - Despite a 27-point, 8-rebound effort from Ed Kirk, the University of Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team had its six-game winning streak snapped with an 81-77 loss to Alaska Fairbanks at the Patty Center tonight.
Forward Peter Bullock and Greg Freeman scored 17 and 16 points respectively for UAA (19-8, 13-5 Pac West), which must wait until Sunday's announcement to find out whether it makes the NCAA Division II Tournament. Forward Bogdan Popescu led UAF (10-17, 9-9) with 31 points and 10 rebounds.
The Seawolves trailed 44-30 at halftime and 62-47 with 12 minutes remaining, but their comeback fell short as UAF shot a red-hot 59.6 percent from the field.
UAA entered the game ranked fifth in the Division II West Region rankings. The Seawolves now must wait for Sunday's 4 p.m. AST announcement to find out if they are chosen for the six-team regional.
