UAA men chopped down in final ticks

ARCATA, Calif. (Jan. 12) - Sophomore Peter Bullock scored a game-high 25 points, but the UAA men's basketball team fell just short of a major upset Saturday night, falling 76-72 to 12th-ranked Humboldt State in front of a sellout crowd.

UAA (4-10, 4-1 GNAC) forged a 72-72 tie when Cody Gallatin nailed a three-pointer with 1:31 remaining. But HSU (14-0, 5-0 GNAC) held UAA scoreless and made 4-of-6 free throws to seal the win.

The Seawolves had an opportunity to tie in the waning moments, but point guard Bryson Vaughan was whistled for traveling with 6 seconds left.
The Lumberjacks were led by a 17-point, 19-rebound performance from forward Fred Hooks, while GNAC-leading scorer Austin Nichols paced HSU with 18 points.

Bullock, a 6-6 forward from Anchorage, shot 8 of 15 from the field, but he missed six of his 15 free throws, and the Seawolves made just 11 of 24 charities as a team.

Gallatin scored a career-high 18 points on 6-of-10 three-point shooting.

Freshman guard Mark Drake was the third Seawolf in double-figures with 13 points.

With the loss, UAA slips into a third-place tie in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with their next opponent, Western Washington. UAA will take on the Vikings in Bellingham, Wash., on Thursday, Jan. 17, before traveling to nationally ranked and league-leading Seattle Pacific on Jan. 19.
