Seawolf runners win at Palmer

PALMER (Sept. 7) - The UAA men's cross country team posted its second straight team title while the women's team tied Alaska Fairbanks at the Palmer Cross Country Invitational here Saturday.


UAA's Sean Rivers and Tobias Schwoerer went 1-2 for the Seawolf men again. Rivers covered the five-kilometer layout in 15 minutes, 39 seconds while Schwoerer was timed in 15:56.


The UAA men posted a team score of 19 points, outdistancing Team Alaska (48) and Alaska Fairbanks (63). The Seawolves' Eric Strabel was fourth in 15:59, followed by Todd List (fifth, 16:10) and Andy Elvester (seventh, 16:19).


Stacy Edwards' third-place finish paced the UAA women's 28-28 tie with UAF. The Nanooks' Sigrid Aas won the race in 18:58 while teammate Johanna Turunen was second in 19:07. Edwards posted a time of 19:21, followed by the Seawolves' Kiersten Lippman in 19:58.


Rounding out UAA's top five were Nicole Deyong (sixth, 20:11), Leslie Boyd (seventh, 20:21) and Lindsay Krous (eighth, 20:36). The Seawolf ladies ran without Meyoung Blum, who sat out the race nursing a leg injury.


The Seawolves will return to action at the Fresno Invitational on Sept. 14.
