Mustangs edge Seawolves

ANCHORAGE (Dec. 20) - Kamie Jo Massey scored a career-high 24 points, but it was Elyza Schafer's two free throws with 7.9 seconds remaining that gave Western New Mexico a 67-65 win over the UAA women's basketball team in the Glacier Classic tonight.

Massey also grabbed 13 rebounds for UAA (5-4), however the Seawolves committed a season-high 26 turnovers. Center Ivanna Stojkovic had game-highs of 25 points, 14 rebounds and six steals for the Mustangs (4-6).

The Seawolves went on a 6-0 run to take a 65-60 lead with 2:35 remaining before back-to-back layups by Brie Adderly and Stojkovic brought the Mustangs within a point. With 41 seconds left, Stojkovic hit one free throw and missed the second to leave the score knotted a 65.

Massey's baseline jumper then came up short and Schafer with fouled to set up the winning points. Massey drove the length of the court and missed a runner in the lane at the buzzer.

Stojkovic was named to the All-Glacier Classic Team, along with Massey and Amber Nasby (10 points Saturday).

The Seawolves will return to action Jan. 2 with their first road game of the year at Utah Valley State.
