Nanooks fend off Seawolf men, 91-80

FAIRBANKS (Jan. 27) - James Hartman scored a career-high 25 points and Marcus Robinson added 19, but it wasn't enough Saturday against arch-rival Alaska Fairbanks as the UAA men's basketball team dropped a 91-80 decision at the Patty Center.

UAA (8-10, 2-7 GNAC) also got 12 points from Mark Drake, while UAF (12-6, 6-3) snapped a three-game losing streak behind Brad Oleson's 39-point performance.

Oleson, the reining Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year, shot 10 of 15 overall, 8 of 11 from three-point range and 11 of 13 from the free throw line. The senior swingman helped the Nanooks to an 11-point halftime lead, and he seemingly answered every time UAA made a run in the second half.

The Seawolves won the battle of the boards (41-38) for just the seventh time this season, and they were again careful with the ball, committing only 11 turnovers. However, the Nanooks were able to manage 53 percent shooting from the field, including 52 percent on treys.

Hartman, a junior swingman from Oceanside, Calif., continued his solid play with 9-of-13 shooting (3-6 3FG) and eight rebounds. Adam Fitt-Chappell led UAA with his second straight nine-rebound game, but the junior struggled from the floor, connecting on just 3 of 18 shots.

The Seawolves will try to snap their four-game losing skid Feb. 3 when they host Seattle University. That game tips at 7:05 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
