ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Feb. 12) - Four Seawolves scored in double figures, but the UAA men's basketball team could do little to slow hot-shooting Kyle Boast and his Central Washington teammates in a 108-85 loss at Nicholson Pavilion on Saturday.
Marcus Robinson led UAA (10-12, 4-9 GNAC) with 22 points, while Carl Arts chipped in 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting. But Boast was the star of the night, making a school- and GNAC-record 14-of-14 shots from the field on his way to a career-high 34 points.
CWU (9-13, 5-8) took a 52-38 lead into halftime and immediately extended its advantage in the second half. UAA never got closer in the second 20 minutes, falling behind by as many as 29 points.
Despite the loss, UAA shot a season-high 92.3 percent from the free throw line, boosted by Robinson's 11-of-11 performance. Mark Drake scored 13 points (3-9 FG, 2-6 3FG, 5-5 FT), grabbed a career-high seven rebounds and dished five assists, while James Hartman also contributed 13 points.
The Wildcats earned a split of the season series - avenging last month's 93-90 UAA victory in Anchorage - by shooting 59.1 percent from the field (39-66), 52.9 percent from long range (9-17) and 87.5 percent on free throws (21-24).
Drake's 13 points moved him past Michael Johnson (1,085, 1987-89) for 10th place on UAA's career scoring list. With 1,091, the Indiana native is only four shy of catching Vern Robateau (1,095, 1985-90) for the No. 9 spot.
UAA returns to the Wells Fargo Sports Complex next week to take on league leaders Western Washington (Feb. 17) and No. 10 Seattle Pacific (Feb. 19). Both games tip at 8 p.m. AST.
