ANCHORAGE (Jan. 18) - The UAA Athletic Department on Wednesday announced that its student-athletes achieved an overall grade point average of 3.02 for calendar year 2005. According to
Dede Allen, associate athletic director for academics and compliance, 77 of UAA's 148 student-athletes (52 percent), representing 11 teams, achieved a 3.0 or higher. Eleven student-athletes produced a perfect 4.0 GPA for the fall semester.
This represents the 10th time in the past 13 years that the Seawolves have achieved an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
"Academic achievement and progress toward graduation by our student-athletes is our core business," said UAA athletic director, Dr. Steve Cobb. "We are proud of the efforts and academic accomplishments of our student-athletes. We are also appreciative of the recruiting efforts of our coaching staff that have attracted high-quality and high-achieving students."
The 11 student-athletes who achieved a 4.0 GPA for Fall 2005 were: Jamie Burton (gymnastics), Nicole DeYong (women's skiing/track & field/cross country), Dave Duncan (men's skiing/track & field), Mandy Kaempf (women's track & field/cross country), Jared Kettler (men's basketball), Michael Madrid (men's track & field), Meggie Matteson (women's basketball), Heather McIntyre (women's track & field/cross country), Krista Rader (women's skiing), Marcus Waring (men's skiing), and Krystal White (women's basketball).
