HOUGHTON, Mich. ? Streaking Michigan Tech earned a home sweep over Alaska Anchorage by skating past the Seawolves 5-3 here tonight at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
The Huskies, who extended their win streak to four games, improved to 5-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in WCHA action with the win, while UAA fell to 2-2-2 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
UAA led 2-1 midway through the second period on goals by senior Mark Smith and sophomore Jay Beagle, but Tech's Tyler Shelast would draw the Huskies even at 15:03 of the period with the first of his two goals.
MTU would grab the lead for good on a Jake Wilkens goal at 10:15 of the third and would extend its advantage to 4-2 on Shelast's second score of the night with three minutes remaining in regulation.
Senior Chad Anderson tallied an unassisted goal with 50 seconds remaining with the Seawolves skating with an extra attacker, but MTU would answer with an empty netter 22 seconds later.
Jordan Foote scored the Huskies opening goal of the game at 4:03 of the first.
The Seawolves, who outshot Tech 26-24, went 1-of-4 on the power play and held MTU scoreless on its four power-play chances.
Junior Nathan Lawson went the distance for UAA in net, recording 19 saves. Rob Nolan recorded 16 saves for Tech in the win.
Beagle, who scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season, also tallied an assist to lead UAA in scoring, while junior Merit Waldrop collected his team-best sixth assist on Beagle's goal.
Also registering assists for the Seawolves were freshman Paul Crowder and senior Justin Bourne.
The Seawolves and Huskies will meet again for a two-game series in Anchorage Jan. 19-20, 2007.
UAA returns home for its first WCHA home series of the season next weekend against defending NCAA champion Wisconsin at Sullivan Arena.
