ANCHORAGE -- Senior Chelsey Jones delivered 10 kills and six blocks, but the Seawolves couldn't hang on to late leads in a pair of games Thursday as they fell 30-24, 31-29, 30-28 to Western Oregon at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
UAA (3-13, 0-8 GNAC), which lost its ninth in a row, also got eight kills from junior Kim Stolk. WOU (6-12, 4-4) was led by 15 kills from Laura Sakala and 39 assists from setter Amy Herron.
After dropping Game 1, the Seawolves appeared to right the ship in the second frame, taking leads of 26-19 and 29-26 in the late-going. The Wolves would rally to tie it, however, behind consecutive kills from Sakala, Keyana Jenkins, and Stacey Bennett (9 kills). An ace by Jessica Baty (15 digs) gave WOU the lead, and Heather Lyons committed an attack error on game point to leave the home team trailing 2 games to 0.
In the third, UAA built a 24-21 advantage, but again could not hang on. Tied at 28-28, Bennett slammed another kill, and Shakira Jenkins ended the match with her 10th kill.
The match marked the first road win for WOU in eight tries this year.
The Seawolves were led in digs by senior libero Rachael Knecht (14), while freshman setter Tehane Kahalehau had 26 assists, 4 aces and 4 block assists.
UAA will try to get in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference win column Saturday when it hosts Saint Martin's at 7 p.m. at the WFSC.
