ANCHORAGE - Wisconsin's Matthew Ford scored the goal-ahead goal with 6:15 remaining in regulation to lift the No. 17-ranked Badgers to a 2-1 road win over Alaska Anchorage here tonight at the Sullivan Arena.
The Seawolves (6-10-5, 2-10-3 WCHA) knotted the game at 1-1 on a one-timer from sophomore wing Josh Lunden at the 3:40 mark of the third, but would be held scoreless from the remainder of the game despite outshooting the Badgers (10-10-3, 6-8-1 WCHA) 12-6 in the period.
The loss, which dropped UAA to 0-6-1 in WCHA home games, was its fifth consecutive overall in league play and sixth straight on home ice.
Sophomore goaltender Jon Olthuis made 25 saves for the Seawolves, including 10 each in both the first and second periods. His counterpart in net - Wisconsin's Shane Connelly - recorded 27 saves while collecting his ninth victory of the season.
UAA, which edged the Badgers 28-27 in shots, went scoreless in five attempts with the man advantage. UW also went scorleess on the power play at 0 for 4.
Wisconsin controlled the first 20 minutes of action, owning an 11-5 shot advantage, as it took a 1-0 lead on John Mitchell's strike from the center high slot at 13:45.
An evenly played second saw each team go 0 for 3 on the power play, while UAA held a slight 11-10 edge in shots. Senior Merit Waldrop nearly tied the game with just over two minutes remaining in the period but his shot hit the right post.
Lunden's score from the low right slot was his team-best 10th of the season and 21st of his career. Sophomore forward Kevin Clark collected his team-leading 11th assist on the goal, while freshman center Craig Parkinson tallied his seventh helper of the season with the second assist.
The current six-game home losing skid is UAA's longest since dropping six in a row during the 2002-03 campaign.
The Seawolves and Badgers will lace their skates up again in Saturday's series finale at the Sully as the puck will drop at 7:07 p.m.
