ANCHORAGE ? St. Cloud State received two power-play goals from sophomore Andreas Nodl and sophomore goaltender Jase Weslosky stopped 22 of 23 as the No.19-ranked Huskies earned a road win by downing Alaska Anchorage 3-1 tonight at Sullivan Arena.
The Seawolves (7-15-7, 3-15-3 WCHA) skated to a 1-0 lead on senior Chris Tarkir's fourth goal of the season at the 10:32 mark of the opening period, but SCSU (13-13-3, 8-11-2 WCHA) would tally three unanswered goals in the second period to clinch the win and run its unbeaten streak over UAA to seven games (6-0-1).
Sophomore Jon Olthuis made 17 saves in the loss, while seniors Luke Beaverson and Peter Cartwright would earn points with assists on the Seawolves' lone goal.
The Huskies struck for a pair of goals in a 41-second span during the second frame as Nodl would notch his 15th marker with a power-play tally at 1:44 and senior Chris Anderson would receive a generous ricochet off the right side glass at 2:25 giving SCSU the lead for good at 2-1.
Anderson intercepted a Seawolf pass and fired an unassuming shot from the center line that appeared to hit off a partition in the glass and deflect the puck past a surprised Olthuis and into net.
Nodl added his second power-play tally of the period at 15:02 giving SCSU a two-goal cushion heading into the final period.
The Seawolves turned up the pressure in the third, out shooting the Huskies 10-4, but failed to find the back of the net.
SCSU's Ryan Latch added to his league-leading point total (41) by receiving assists on both Nodl scores.
UAA was held scoreless on four power-play chances while the Huskies, who own the top power-play unit in the WCHA, went 2 for 5 with the man advantage.
The same two teams square off at 7:07 p.m. Saturday at the Sully.
