ANCHORAGE ? Nineteen home games and a trip to sunny Florida will highlight the 2008-09 Alaska Anchorage women's basketball schedule, announced Monday by head coach Tim Moser.
The Seawolves ? coming off an NCAA Semifinals appearance last spring ? will have their earliest official starting date in program history when they take on Columbus (Ga.) State in Disney's Division II East Coast Tip-Off Classic, Oct. 31 in Orlando, Fla. UAA will also play Bentley (Mass.) and Lake Superior (Mich.) State at Disney the following days.
After a road exhibition at Division I power New Mexico on Nov. 9, UAA's home slate kicks off with games against Georgian Court (N.J.) on Nov. 15 and Colorado Christian, Nov. 20-21.
The Seawolves will defend their 2006 and 2007 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout titles when they take on Cal State Northridge in the opening game of the four-team tournament Nov. 25-26 at Sullivan Arena. UAA will face either Syracuse or Jackson State in the next round.
Two-game home series with Mansfield (Pa.) and West Region foe Cal State Stanislaus highlight the December slate, with the 16-game Great Northwest Athletic Conference season getting under way in January.
UAA went 30-5 overall and finished second in the GNAC with a 15-3 mark in 2007-08. The Seawolves return seven letterwinners from that team, including All-American and two-time GNAC Player of the Year Rebecca Kielpinski.
