GIRDWOOD – The Alaska Anchorage Alpine team was led by a
pair of freshmen, as rookies Ida Bjerka and Cameron Brewington came away
victorious in the women's and men's slalom, respectively, on Thursday evening
at the Alyeska Ski Resort.
Skiing as an individual in the December FIS Open, Bjerka led
the field with a time of one minute and 37.08 seconds. UAA teammate, freshman
Petra Gantnerova finished the two run competition in a time of 1:38.35 for
second place. Gantnerova had the best second-run of the evening, clocking in at
48.60.
The Seawolves' freshman Kayla Hoog-Fry (1:47.94) was 11th,
while sophomore All-American Alex Parker and sophomore Lacy Saugstad did not
finish both attempts. Senior Sandra MacDonald was disqualified in the first
run.
On the men's side, Brewington crossed the finish line for a
combined time of 1:27.51, while posting the fastest second run at 43.82.
Junior Ryan Wolosyn (1:38.71) was 7th, while
juniors Andrew Fischer (1:44.69) and All-American Egil Ismar (1:58.53) finished
in 15th and 29th, respectively.
Sophomore Halfdan Falkum-Hansen didn't finish the second run and freshman
Andreas Adde received a DQ in the second run.
The UAA Alpine skiers will compete again as individuals on
Friday in the slalom starting at 4:45 p.m. AST, followed by the giant slalom on
Saturday and Sunday.
