ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Alaska Anchorage was shut out for the third time of the season with a 6-0 defeat by the No. 4 St. Cloud State Huskies in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game on Saturday night at the National Hockey Center.
The Huskies (18-8-4, 13-6-3 WCHA) struck once in the opening stanza, followed by a pair of goals in the second and three in the third. Despite placing their third-most shots on net this season (33), the Seawolves (10-16-2, 8-14-2 WCHA) were unable to capitalize on multiple opportunities.
Senior goaltender Jon Olthuis posted a season-high 18 saves on 19 attempts in the first period but struggled in the second half of the game. Olthuis' record dropped to 7-10-2, while freshman Mike Lee (8-6-3) picked up his first collegiate shutout.
In the WCHA standings, the Huskies advance to a two-way tie with Minnesota Duluth for first with 29 points. Alaska Anchorage remains tied with Minnesota - who has four games in hand - at No. 7.
With the defeat, the Seawolves extend their winless streak at the NHC to 32 games. The Seawolves end the regular season with the Huskies with a 0-3-1 record.
The last time UAA was shut out was on Nov. 27 against then-No. 5 Colorado College (5-0). Before that, then-No. 2 North Dakota blanketed UAA, 5-0 on Oct. 23.
The Seawolves will have the Valentine's Day weekend off to recover before heading to Minnesota State on Feb. 19-20. The puck is scheduled to drop at 4:37 p.m. AST on Friday, followed by a 4:07 p.m. AST start on Saturday.
