California JC stars join Seawolf women

ANCHORAGE - The Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team added a pair of talented players from the California junior-college ranks Tuesday when head coach Tim Moser announced the signings of Francesca De Angelis and Siedah Wilson to National Letters of Intent. Both players will have two years of eligibility with the Seawolves.

De Angelis, a 5-9 shooting guard, was a first-team all-league and second-team all-state honoree at Santa Barbara City College last season. The Laguna Niguel, Calif., native was the Western State Conference scoring champion with 20.2 points per game, while ranking third in the league in steals in 2009-10. The Vacqueros' team captain and most valuable player, De Angelis tallied three games of 30 points or more, including a career-high of 34 on Dec. 18.

“Francesca is a multi-dimensional guard who can score from all over the court,” said Moser, who has led the Seawolves to a 108-20 record the past four seasons. “We are really impressed with her toughness and drive to succeed on and off the court.”

Wilson, a 5-6 point guard, was a two-time first-team All-Foothill Conference pick at Antelope Valley College in her hometown of Lancaster, Calif. As a sophomore last season, she averaged 7.8 points and 2.8 assists per game to lead AVC to its second straight league title. Wilson was the MVP of the Moorpark Invitational and made the all-tourney squad at two other events.

“Siedah is a natural leader who has a knack for making her teammates better,” said Moser. “She is quick, smart and relentless – all of the qualities that make a successful point guard.

“We are thrilled to start our recruiting class with two such high-quality individuals as Francesca and Siedah.”

The duo's signing marks the beginning of UAA's 2010-11 recruiting class. The Seawolves lose five seniors from last year's team that went 24-5 overall and 13-3 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Div. II Tournament.
