No. 15 Huskies prevail over Seawolves

ANCHORAGE – The No. 15-ranked Michigan Tech Huskies responded from last night's loss to prevail over the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves, 5-0 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Sullivan Arena on Saturday evening.

The Huskies (7-4-1, 5-4-1 WCHA) furnished a goal in the first, three in the second and the final tally in the third, breaking the Seawolves' five-game winning streak against MTU. Michigan Tech advances to a two-way tie with Denver at No. 4 in the league standings, while UAA (4-7-1, 1-7-0 WCHA) remains at No. 12.

The Huskies opened the scoring at 8:56 of the first with an even-strength tally by Blake Pietila. Jordan Baker gave MTU a two-goal lead in the beginning of the second, before the Huskies added two goals, just 36 seconds apart from each other from Milos Gordic and Ryan Furne. The final Tech goal came courtesy of Jacob Johnstone in the final stanza at 14:08.

Sophomore goaltenders Chris Kamal (17 saves) and Rob Gunderson (6 saves) shared time between the pipes, with Kamal (3-4-0) picking up the loss. MTU's Josh Robinson (6-2-1), who didn't play in last night's game, suited up for the Huskies, posting 23 saves in the shutout.

The Huskies outshot the Seawolves, 28-23 – UAA is now 0-6-0 when being out shot. MTU was 1-for-7 on the man advantage, while UAA was 0-for-3.

The last time UAA lost to MTU was on Oct. 31, 2008.

The Seawolves will head to Mankato, Minn., to play the Minnesota State Mavericks on Nov. 25-26.
