#10 UAA cruises past 'Swords

HONOLULU (Dec. 13) – Bruna Deichmann and Alysa Horn scored 22 points apiece Tuesday as the 10th-ranked Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team had little trouble with host Chaminade, earning a 100-45 victory at McCabe Gymnasium.

The Seawolves (8-2) earned their fourth straight victory as they outshot the Silverswords 57 percent to 23 percent and outrebounded them 49-27.

Chaminade (0-4) was led by 12 points from junior forward Nikki Tauau.

The Seawolves controlled action from the opening tip, jumping to leads of 9-0 and 28-2 as Deichmann and sophomore guard Kylie Burns each surpassed their career scoring highs in the opening 20 minutes. Burns – whose previous career-high of nine points had been achieved four times – finished with 16 points on 4-of-6 three-point shooting.

Deichmann, meanwhile, shot 10 of 15 from the field, including 2 of 2 on three-pointers. The junior guard from Brazil also had five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. Horn, a junior forward from Kodiak, reached her season-high scoring total on 9-of-15 marksmanship, making 4 of 6 from long range.

Junior forward Tijera Mathews was the fourth Seawolf in double figures with 10 points, while senior posts Hanna Johansson and Kaylie Robison tied for game-high honors with 10 rebounds each. Junior guard Sasha King totaled six assists and five steals, and Johansson added five assists.

Junior center Miriam Seale also tallied a career-high with six points on 3-of-3 shooting.

The same two teams meet again Wednesday at 5 p.m. at McCabe.

NOTES: UAA's 52-16 halftime lead was the fourth-largest in program history against a fellow Division II team; the top three performances also came against the Silverswords … the game was the 35th time in program history that UAA hit the century mark … the Seawolves' .667 (12-18) three-point percentage tied for the second-best performance in program history ... the  12 treys made were a season-high and two shy of the program single-game record ... UAA improved to 7-0 all-time against Chaminade.
