Women sweep Chaminade in Oahu

HONOLULU – Senior forward Kaylie Robison had 16 points and 12 rebounds Wednesday as the 10th-ranked Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team rolled to its second lopsided win in as many days against Chaminade, downing the host Silverswords 91-47 at McCabe Gymnasium.

The Seawolves (9-2) earned their fifth straight win, getting double-figure scoring from five players.

The Silverswords (0-5) were led by 10 points from guard Jordan Ahakuelo.

After jumping to a 9-0 lead in Tuesday's 100-45 victory, the Seawolves bettered that with a 14-0 spurt to start Wednesday's contest. The Silverswords would not go away as easily this time, using a 7-0 run to pull within 18-13. UAA took control at that point, however, and went into halftime ahead 45-20.

Along with Robison's third double-double of the season, UAA also got 16 points from junior guard Haley Holmstead, 13 apiece from junior guard Bruna Deichmann and senior center Hanna Johansson, and 11 points from junior forward Tijera Mathews. Johansson just missed her fourth double-double of the season with nine rebounds, while Mathews finished with six rebounds and four steals.

Four of UAA's five starters shot better than 50 percent from the field, with Deichmann finishing 6 of 8, Holmstead 6 of 9, Robison 7 of 12 and Johansson 6 of 11.

UAA outshot CU 55 percent to 29 percent and won the rebounding battle 50-24.

The Seawolves will remain on Oahu for a few more days before facing St. Xavier (Ill.), the 13th-ranked NAIA club in the nation. That game – the final non-conference affair for UAA – tips at 3 p.m. Alaska Standard Time on Monday, Dec. 19 at the Kilauea Rec Center.

NOTES: UAA is now 19-0 all-time against the current four NCAA Division II teams from Hawaii, including 3-0 this year … the 44-point margin of victory was the closest in eight all-time meetings against Chaminade.
