ANCHORAGE - Point guard Sasha King scored a career-high 22 points and forward Kaylie Robison recorded a double-double Thursday to help the 14th-ranked Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team roll to an 86-58 victory over Western Oregon at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
The Seawolves (16-3, 7-1 GNAC) also got 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting from senior center Hanna Johansson as they connected at 51 percent from the field and forced 30 turnovers.
The Wolves (4-14, 3-5) were led by 18 points and three assists from forward Rylee Peterson.
After trading baskets to begin the game, King put UAA ahead for good with the first of her four three-pointers, and the lead grew quickly to 19-6. The visitors would mount a comeback, drawing within 25-21 on Dijana Topalovic's three-pointer at the 8:48 mark, before the Seawolves took control with seven straight points in a 22-second span.
Tijera Mathews (8 points, 4 assists, career-high 6 steals) started the surge with a three-pointer, followed by a backcourt steal and layup by King. UAA kept up the pressure after that, with Mathews deflecting another pass toward Alysa Horn, who fed Johansson for another layup. The lead grew to 37-21 on a three-pointer from Kylie Burns (8 points, 2 assists, 2 steals), and the Seawolves took a 42-29 advantage at halftime.
Peterson sliced her team's deficit to 42-34 early in the second half before King answered with five straight points.
King, from Norman, Okla., continued her recent stellar play with 8-of-11 shooting (4 of 5 on treys), a career-high-tying seven assists, plus five steals. The former Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College standout topped her career scoring high by 10 points and now has 14 assists and 12 steals in UAA's last two games.
Meanwhile, Robison did most of her damage in the second half to finish with 12 points and 11 rebounds - the senior's fifth double-double of the season. Horn had eight points, three steals and two blocks, and junior guard Haley Holmstead added seven points for UAA, which has now won 16 straight at the WFSC.
UAA also won for the 16th straight time over WOU, extending the longest streak in program history against any opponent.
The Seawolves are back in action Saturday for the second of four straight home games, taking on Saint Martin's at 7 p.m. AST.
