Doucette shares MPSF weekly honor

WOODLAND, Calif. – Alaska Anchorage sophomore Melissa Doucette was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's co-Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday, following her outstanding all-around performances last week in Maryland.

The Rochester, N.H., native posted career- and UAA season-high all-arounds (38.375, 38.400) in consecutive meets at No. 23 Maryland on Jan. 20 and Towson on Jan. 22. She set or tied career-highs on bars (9.65 at Towson), floor (9.775 at Maryland) and beam (9.375 at Towson) both days, helping the Seawolves to a win over fellow visitor William & Mary on Sunday.

Through four meets, Doucette has the MPSF's best averages all-around (38.131) and on vault (9.631), while ranking second on floor exercise (9.706) and fifth on uneven bars (9.581).

“Melissa was pretty awesome this weekend,” said UAA head coach Paul Stoklos. “She is very focused and consistent right now, and we can see her confidence growing.”

This marks UAA's first MPSF weekly honor this season as Doucette shared the award with Seattle Pacific senior Sherah Veron.

Doucette and the Seawolves are back in action Feb. 4 when they travel for a dual meet at the University of Denver.
