Bronga runner-up, Seawolves 4th in skiing

ANCHORAGE & GIRDWOOD – Alaska Anchorage completed Day 2 of the Seawolf Invitational with senior Jaime Bronga finishing runner-up in the women's 15K classical Friday at Kincaid Park, while the Alpine team wrapped up the final day of the UAA Invite with a fourth-place team finish at Alyeska.

After five events, the Seawolves are currently third at the Seawolf Invite with 491 points, while Utah leads with 561 and Colorado in third with 548. Montana State is fourth with 457 points and New Mexico wraps up the top five with 453 points.

At the conclusion of the UAA Invite, the Seawolves finished fourth with 718 points. Utah claimed the team victory with 898 points, while Colorado was second at 831 and Denver was third at 775. Montana State finished up the top five with 688 points.

In the Seawolf Invite, Bronga led the Seawolves with her second podium finish in as many days. After completing the 5K freestyle race in third on Thursday, the three-time All-American finished runner-up in the 15K classical on her home course, narrowly missing the title by .4 seconds. Bronga crossed at 47 minutes, 57.3 seconds, while Colorado's Eliska Hajkova claimed her third victory in Alaska at 47:56.9.

Helping the UAA women's Nordic team to a winning point total of 110 was senior Laura Rombach and junior Karina Smith. Rombach, from Neukirch, Germany, captured her best performance this week in fourth at 48:22.4, while Smith (54:16.0) added points for UAA in 24th.

The Seawolves were without the assistance of senior Steffi Hiemer, who missed the race with the illness.

On the men's side, the Seawolves used points from sophomores Lukas Ebner and Lasse Molegaard-Nielsen and freshman Nevio Zeni for a combined 84 points in the 20K classical race. Ebner paced the Seawolves in ninth at 56:14.5, while Molegaard-Nielsen (56:25.1) was 11th and Zeni (58:13.7) was 19th.

Colorado's Rune Oedegaard furnished the fastest men's time at 54:25.5.

On the slopes at Alyeska, the Seawolves received top-15 results from senior Alex Parker and freshmen Anna Berecz and Taylor Guetschow in the women's slalom. Parker finished 8th, completing the two-run course in a time of 1:44.32, while Berecz was 12th at 1:46.26. Completing the scoring trio was Guetschow (1:47.52) in 15th.

In the men's slalom, junior Andreas Adde was the fastest Seawolf down the hill, finishing 11th at 1:39.04, while sophomore Christopher Kollenborg was on his heels in 12th at 1:39.22. Junior Cameron Brewington also scored for UAA, clocking in at 19th at 1:40.05.

The Alpine team will conclude the races in Alaska with the Seawolf Invite's slalom race at the Alyeska Ski Resort on Saturday. The races are scheduled to commence at 10:30 a.m. AST with the men's first run, followed by the women's 1st run at 11:30 a.m. AST. Action can be followed live on Live-timing.com.
