'Wolves fourth after Nordic races

ANCHORAGE – Following the conclusion of the men's and women's 10K freestyle races at Kincaid Park, the Seawolf ski team sits fourth in the Alaska Anchorage Invitational among Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association memebers on Monday. Leading the Seawolf pack was senior Jaime Bronga on the women's side and sophomore Lukas Ebner on the men's team.

After two events, the UAA Nordic team has amassed 369 points, while Utah sits at No. 1 with 470 points. Colorado (448) is second and Montana State (403) is third, while Denver (346) sits behind UAA in fifth and New Mexico is sixth with 328 points.

Leading the Seawolves for the sixth consecutive race was Bronga, a local of Anchorage. A three-time All-American, Bronga completed her home course in a time of 30 minutes, 15.6 seconds for fourth place. Bronga, who received RMISA Skier of the Week honors on Jan. 17, has yet to finish worse than fourth all season.

Joining Bronga in the scoring was the senior tandem of Steffi Hiemer and Laura Rombach. Heimer finished ninth at 30:52.5 and Rombach was seconds behind her in 10th at 30:55.3. Combined the duo has finished in the top 10 in 10 of the 12 races this season.

On the men's side, Ebner, from Furtwangen, Germany, paced UAA for the fifth straight race with a time of 26:42.0, good for 15th place. Classmate Lasse Molegaard-Nielsen was 17th at 27:07.9, while rookie Nevio Zeni was 21st at 27:36.0.

Individual titles went to Utah's Maria Graefnings (29:12.7) and Miles Havlick (25:07.3) in the women's and men's races, respectively.

The UAA Invite continues on Wednesday with the men's and women's giant slalom races in Girdwood. The men's first run is scheduled to commence at 10:30 a.m. AST, followed by the women's at 11:30 a.m. AST.
