UAA and Denver tied for 3rd after Day 3

GIRDWOOD – After six events, the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves are tied with the Denver Pioneers for third among Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association members at their own Alaska Anchorage Invitational on Wednesday.

Following the completion of the men's and women's giant slalom, Utah leads the field with 718 points, while defending NCAA champion Colorado is second with 620 points. The Seawolves and Pioneers have each amassed 551 points, while Montana State is fifth with 534 points.

The Seawolf women's Alpine team, which posted 96 points, was led by a trio of freshmen in Anais Urbain, Vanessa Berther and Anna Berecz. Urbain paced the Seawolves with a season-high fourth-place finish, completing the giant slalom two-run course in a time of one minute, 57.72 seconds. Berther (1:59.39) also posted a season-best ninth-place showing, while Berecz wrapped up the scoring for UAA in 17th at 2:00.64.

Senior All-American Alex Parker led the UAA women after the first run with a time of 59.20, but was unable to complete the second run.

On the men's side, Adde, from Oslo, Norway, led the Seawolves in sixth, completing the two runs in a time of 1:55.85. Also scoring for UAA was rookie Sean Alexander (1:56.91) in 11th and Niko Harmanen (2:10.87) in 30th.

The UAA Invite concludes on Friday with the men's and women's slalom. Meanwhile, however, the Seawolf Invitational commences Thursday with both Nordic and Alpine action. The Nordic freestyle races start at 10 a.m. at Kincaid Park, while the the Alpine giant slalom racess begin at 10:30 a.m. at Alyeska Ski Resort.
