UAA's power play hands UAH a 6-1 loss

ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Anchorage Seawolves collected the Western Collegiate Hockey Association series sweep Saturday, with a 6-1 defeat of visiting Alabama Huntsville at the Sullivan Arena.

The Seawolves (5-3-0, 2-2-0 WCHA) used a school-record four power-play goals in the third period for their second league win of the season. UAA dispatched the Chargers (0-8-0, 0-6-0 WCHA) – who scored the first tally of the night – 3-1 on Friday for its first sweep at home since Feb. 4-5, 2011 vs. Michigan Tech.

UAA received goals from six different players – including junior forward Kory Roy, who netted his first collegiate tally. Four players posted multi-point games, including a three-point game from junior Scott Allen (1-2—3). Furnishing two points tonight were senior Jordan Kwas (0-2—2), junior Brett Cameron (1-1—2) and sophomore Blake Tatchell (0-2—2).

Dressing in his second straight game between the pipes was senior Rob Gunderson. After collecting the win last night, Gunderson stopped 18 shots, improving to 3-2-0 on the season. Matt Larose (0-4-0) posted 22 saves.

The Seawolves out shot the Chargers for the second night with a 28-19 edge.

Overall, UAA had five power-play goals – four of them were accomplished on a UAH 5-minute major in the third. The five power-play goals is just one shy of the school record. Over the weekend, the Seawolves went 7-for-15 on the power play.

The Seawolves also kept the Chargers scoreless on five man advantage opportunities throughout the two games.

UAA hits the road for a WCHA series at Bemidji State, Nov. 15-16.
