HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – The Alaska Anchorage Seawolves continue to struggle on the road, tying Alabama Huntsville, 1-1 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game Friday evening at the Von Braun Center.
Following a scoreless first period, the Seawolves (11-9-3, 7-7-3 WCHA) struck first for the seventh-straight game, before allowing the Chargers (1-23-1, 1-13-1 WCHA) to hang around and score in the third period, while falling to 2-7-2 on the road. UAA remains in fifth place in the league standings, one point out of fourth and hosting the WCHA First Round.
The Seawolves got on the board first with a wrister from junior defenseman Austin Coldwell, following a pass from sophomore Blake Tatchell from the slot. Senior Jordan Kwas picked up the second helper after capitalizing on a Charger turnover in Seawolf zone. It was Coldwell's fourth of the season.
The Chargers' Regan Soquila netted his first collegiate goal at 6:01 of the third to knot the game, 1-1. Both teams were unable to score in the final minutes of regulation, sending the contest into overtime – UAA's fourth game with extra minutes this season.
UAH received had for a 5-on-3 for 29 seconds in overtime but was unable to convert, keeping the game tied, while breaking an eight-game losing skid.
The Seawolves produced a 25-18 advantage for shots on goal, while both teams were scoreless on the man advantage. Senior Chris Kamal fell to 4-2-1 on the season with 17 saves, while Matt Larose made 24 stops.
The Seawolves and Chargers will rematch tomorrow evening at 4:07 p.m. AST.
