Seawolves wallop Wildcats behind 19 treys

ANCHORAGE – Senior guard Travis Thompson led an Alaska Anchorage three-point barrage with 23 points on seven treys Tuesday to help the Seawolves run away with a 91-52 men's basketball victory over Portland Bible at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Seawolves (4-7) also got 13 points and nine assists from junior point guard Brian McGill as they shot 19 of 34 from long range and snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Wildcats (4-10) were led by 16 points from guard Marsellus Harris and 12 points and seven rebounds from reserve forward Miles Waggener.

UAA saw an early 17-point cushion shaved to 33-24 when Portland Bible's Tyler Hoffman nailed a three-pointer with 2:48 left in the first half, but the Seawolves responded with a 27-6 run, holding the Wildcats without a field goal for the next 11 minutes.

Four Seawolves reached double figures as reserve guard Derrick Fain notched 12 points on 4-of-6 three-point accuracy and freshman center Kalidou Diouf had 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, along with six rebounds and three assists. Freshman forward Sjur Berg delivered his first double-digit rebounding performance with 11 boards, while junior guard Kevin Bowman had nine points (3-6 3FG), five assists and no turnovers.

The Seawolves and Wildcats will meet for a rematch Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Alaska Airlines Center.

NOTES: The 19 three-pointers tied for the fourth-most in program history … Thompson's seven treys tied for the 12th-most in program history and brought the former Dimond High School star within six of former teammate Kyle Fossman (257 treys, 2010-14) for UAA's career record … Thompson also drew within 11 points of catching Jason Kaiser (1,363 points, 1993-95) for No. 6 on the Seawolves' career scoring list … McGill moved into 12th place on UAA's career assists list with 252 and needs just eight more to reach the top 10 … UAA's nine turnovers and 55.9 percent three-point shooting were both season-bests … the meeting was the second all-time against Portland Bible, which also visited in Dec. 2011.
